Welcome to Jones Christian Academy-East
The first day of school, September 2010
Located in Congo Town on the outskirts of Monrovia, Liberia, Africa, Jones Christian Academy-East is a privately funded Christian school that serves this relatively rural, impoverished community. (see community page for location) The beautiful country of Liberia was destroyed by long-running instability, conflict, and civil war from 1990-2003. Most of the country was left with no electricity, running water, roads, or communication. Government services are limited or nonexistent.
The country is taking small, slow steps to rebuild. But with a young, uneducated population, it is proving difficult. Job opportunities are scarce and low paying. Food and clean water are in short supply; medical care is unavailable for most of the population.
Jones Christian Academy- East seeks to provide a hopeful future for the children in the Congo Town community through education. Previously, the children here that did attend school had a long, treacherous walk to a public school. But many children at JCA have never attended school before. By sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, along with a solid foundation of learning, we can help Liberians help themselves. The first day of school for the students of Jones Christian Academy is their first step toward a better future for now and all of eternity.

Before
This is the first picture of the building we received from Bishop Emmanuel Jones, our friend in Liberia. The email said something like "We got a long term lease on the perfect building!" What a step of faith!
After
It truly is the perfect building! We bought the materials and supplies; parents and community volunteers did most of the work. Praise God for hard workers and vision! Our school is one of few buildings in the area with running water and indoor, flushing toilets.
